Ovary cysts are the fluid filled sacs present in the ovaries of the woman. Most of the cysts are harmless but however these can not be considered as normal features.
Normally 2 ovaries are present one on each side of uterus. The main function of the ovary is t store and release eggs. Each ovary produces one egg in a month. Later when uterus is prepared for pregnancy by thickening its inside wall; the egg is released from ovary into the uterus. When this egg is not fertilized this entire process ends in menstrual flow; where the unfertilised egg along with the newly formed internal wall of the uterus is discharged out.
Now we have to understand where and how the ovary cyst is formed?
The egg of ovary remains inside a sac called follicle. Sometimes the egg does not get released and remain inside the follicle. After some time we find the inside content of the follicle has turned into fluid. Now the fluid filled follicle is called as an ovary cyst.
In order to know the real cause of ovarian cyst we have to understand the physiology of reproductive cycle of a woman.
Hypothalamus is a part of brain. Pituitary gland is situated beneath the hypothalamus. After stoppage of menstrual flow the low levels of oestrogen and progesterone hormone stimulate hypothalamus to send low pulses of Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRh) to pituitary gland. This is followed by release of Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH) by pituitary gland into ovary. The FSH stimulates the follicle (sac covering egg) to produce Oestrogen hormone. Increased level of oestrogen AGAIN stimulates hypothalamus to send fast impulses of GnRh to pituitary gland. Upon getting fast impulses of GnRh the pituitary gland sends Leutinising Hormone (LH) to follicles. This helps in maturation of egg in the ovary as well as the release of the matured egg. The follicle now is called Corpus Leutium (CL). The CL produces Progesterone hormone. After this phase the pulse rate of GnRh is drastically reduced.
If pregnancy does not occur then the CL automatically reduces in size and finally disappears and the low levels of Oestrogen and Progesterone signals menstrual flow.
The reason of explaining you the above mechanism is to bring your attention towards a fact that the process of stimulation begins in hypothalamus and pituitary glands which are nothing but the parts of the brain. Brain is the physical form of mind. Because we do not have any physical organ name as mind and all the functions of mind are performed by brain only. Hence the disturbance of mind brings the disturbance in brain. Thus the functions of the brain are altered. That is why Type A (aggressive, out bursting anger, cruel, workaholic, revengeful) ladies and type C(sad, morose, inexpressive, suppressed emotion, grief) ladies are mostly prone to ovarian cyst.
1. Follicular cyst- Sometimes the egg is not released and the follicle (cyst) is matured and finally ruptures by itself. Usually it happens around 14th day of menstrual cycle (from the 1st day of last menstrual period).Rupture of follicular cyst produces a sharp pain on that side of lower abdomen in which the cyst was present.
2. Corpus leutium cyst- After the egg is released the follicle is called Corpus leutium (CL). Normally the (CL) breaks and disappears. But in some cases it is filled with fluid or blood and forms a cyst. Usually it remains at the side of the ovary and produces no symptom.
3. Hemorrhagic cyst- Some times a cyst bleeds inside itself. It causes a lot of pain on one side of the abdomen in which side the cyst persists.
4. Dermoid cyst-Sometimes the cells inside the cyst are capable of producing different types of tissues like fat, bone, hair etc. Such types of cysts are diagnosed by MRI or CT scan.
1. Ovarian cyst is spreading like an epidemic. Dr Franklin, MD says that in his 30 years of medicine practice rarely he has seen ovarian cyst cases. But now a day 10 to 20 % of the cases are diagnosed having ovarian cyst. Cause may be the so called modern life style which consists of constant stress.
2. Ovarian cyst give rise to complications like infertility, cancer etc.
3. Ovarian cyst may give rise to other hormonal imbalances like thyroid abnormality etc. which are manifested by excess hair growth, hot flushes, weight gain etc.
5. Surgery is not solution t ovarian cyst. Only by removing the existing cysts by operation you can not stop formation of cysts further.
Ovarian cyst is the best treated in homeopathy. Here we consider the physical symptoms along with the mental generalities of the patients. Medicines prescribed on the basis of symptoms produced because of the cyst do not bring lasting relief. However those symptoms when clubbed with the characteristic symptoms of the individual, past medical history and family medical history and then the remedy is selected by considering all these, often brings prompt relief.
Common homeopathic remedies- Calc carb, calc fl, calc iod, conium, phytolaca, kali iod, lach, lyco, sulphur, thuja.
