Fibroid uterus is the tumour like growth made up of fibroid tissue and develops inside the uterus. It can grow inside uterine wall and project into the uterine cavity. It can grow within the wall of uterus. Also it can project from uterus wall to outside.
It develops mainly due to increased oestrogen hormone level. This condition is found in women who are taking contraceptive pills and also during pregnancy. The women of reproductive age between 30 and 40 are more prone to develop uterus fibroid. Around 20% of the women develop uterine fibroid. A fibroid can be of a pea size or can be as large as to cover the abdomen fully.
